Some scholars reject the idea that the origins of conflict date back thousands of Years. They argue that a lack of social development over the last three hundred years, or since the Renaissance, has led to political backwardness in the Middle East. While they can provide much more substantial evidence for their argument, in comparison to the first groups of scholars, they cannot explain why, in many other regions, like South America and East Asia, we can not find this sort of huge democratic deficit, despite these regions also lacking any Renaissance or gradual social changes. In this section, their failure in finding the origins of conflict in the Middle East will be discussed.
