From Monarchy to Chaos: Iraq’s Political Journey

The newly created state, following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, Iraq, started its existence with these significant problems: the rule of a minority, external dependency, and lack of internal integrity. The kingdom of Iraq could not bear these crises and faced a semi-coup, semi-revolution in 1958. Since then, Iraq witnessed another sort of problems, military coup, internal instability, civil war, and dictatorship, which finally ended with an external intervention; the US military invasion of 2003. A new phase of crises began with this upheaval, and in the last few years, this country has enjoyed relative stability.
