Arabic was and still is a term in the name of this country, which has never let it be free and fit for a multi-ethnic state; the Syrian Arab Republic. Even when this newly created country, following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, had a Kingdom system, for less than one year, the term Arab or Arabic was a barrier to ethnic equality in this country. This huge emphasis on a specific ethnic not only led to an unsuccessful ethnic cleansing in the 1950s to 1970s, but intertwined its nationalism with fascism and undemocratic pan Arabism. The last catastrophe of this country was a bloody civil war since 2011, which apparently ended with the collapse of the Assad regime in December 2024. However, many are concerned that a new phase of dictatorship, ethnic and religious massacre, and civil war might occur due to continuity of the polices of the new rulers in Dansque. The political developments of Syria will be discussed on this page.
