The Middle East has witnessed numerous interstate wars since the establishment of its new nation-states in the last century. The causal factors of these wars vary from ideological to economic, natural resource, and territorial conflicts, as well as religious, sectarian, and nationalist conflicts. Regardless of the reason for the wars between Middle Eastern states, military conflict between states is one of the permanent features of the Middle East and part of its current affairs.
